Welcome to my creative bubble

  • Who am I?

My name is Laura Ferrari. I am a Belgian painter.

I create dreamlike and poetic paintings that oscillate between abstraction and figuration.

By working with color and transparency, I bring softness and light to my creations. They become windows onto elsewhere, which can be hung in your living room.

  • Creativity has rocked my life in waves

As a child, in my free time, when I wasn't taking music theory, violin or classical dance lessons, I drew... dresses, cartoon characters with my brother, the plan of my dream house... More than anything, I loved to imagine and dream.

At eight years old, I wanted to be a painter.

In my late teens, I put aside my artistic aspirations in favor of a completely different path: law. After earning a Master's degree in law, then in notarial practice, I began working as a lawyer in a notary's office, then in an administrative office.

Except that… You can't change your nature.

Quite quickly, the wave of creativity returned, as a necessity to externalize my overflowing imagination and to express the emotions that flow through me .

Inspirations

My creations are nourished by my philosophical reflections, a quest for meaning and a search for freedom and lightness.

The Impressionists, especially Claude Monet and Berthe Morisot, inspire me enormously. I love their approach to color and light. I am also fascinated by mysticism and the world of the Symbolists , like Klimt.

Music also plays a very important role in my creations. For almost two years, I have been playing the harp, an instrument that perfectly accompanies my enchanted world. I am fascinated by the connections that can be made between different art forms.

Finally, my greatest inspiration is nature. The play of light through the clouds, the delicacy of flowers, the mystery of forests.

  • An evolving practice

Curious by nature, I have nourished my practice with readings on creativity and art, but also with online training and a lot of experimentation.

My beginnings were devoted to the study of watercolor , but I quickly felt the call to explore a wide range of techniques (ink, pastel, gouache, oil, acrylic, mixed media, etc.). This has fueled my current use of acrylic paint. Indeed, inspired by the softness of watercolor, I play on an accumulation of thin layers of pigments to bring transparency and depth to my paintings.
